How Does Al-Anon Work?
Al-Anon members attend one or more weekly meetings held at a variety of locations, days and times. Most of the meetings are open to all Al-Anon members. Some meetings are for specific types of members, such as adult children of alcoholics. Some meetings have specific themes, such as a Twelve-Step study or a book study, and all meetings listed are registered with the local district and the national Al-Anon World Service Organization (WSO).
There are over 20 Al-Anon meetings a week in the Santa Barbara, Goleta and Carpentaria area. Meetings are listed on this site and in the printed Meetings Directories distributed at meetings. In addition, there is a weekly beginners meeting specifically for newcomers and a monthly speaker meeting. Although recommended, attending the beginners meeting is not required in order to attend other meetings. There are also Alateen meetings and a meeting conducted in Spanish.
